after swimming

meggie green

in the car driving back from the lake i dip my head to the side
and your hand catches it and holds it there
you say, “do you know how strong i am, i can do this all summer long”

at home we sit on the kitchen floor in our bathing suits and drink beers while the oven preheats
you’re cooking us a whole fish, eyeballs and everything

you stretch your legs over mine in a way that means nothing
you’re looking at your phone and saying this writer, that film, did you know
“undefined” is a mathematical term that means nothing

i wonder is the fish ready, something about is the skin blistering yet
something about my head and your hand and you wrecking me,
eyeballs and everything
